Michael Halpern is an investment professional and entrepreneur with more than four decades of experience across money management, investment banking, hedge funds, private equity, private credit, and alternative asset management.
He began his career in Mergers & Acquisitions at Goldman Sachs in 1983, before investing in public and private companies for David Murdock at Pacific Holding Company. He also provided in-house corporate finance and M&A advisory services for Flexi-Van Corporation and Castle & Cooke.
In 1991, Mr. Halpern founded Dorchester Advisors, a long/short hedge fund focused on small- and mid-cap value equities. He later co-founded Dorchester Capital Advisors, a multi-strategy fund of hedge funds and secondaries platform spanning private equity, private credit, hedge funds, and real estate. Dorchester-managed funds have, collectively, purchased more than $10 billion of net asset value.
Since 2016, Mr. Halpern has managed Westmore Capital Advisors, his family office, which focuses on public equities, opportunistic private credit, seed and growth stage private equity investments. Mr. Halpern currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Skirball Cultural Center. His prior service includes the Board of Directors of R.L. Winston Rod Company, the Board of Advisors of the Stuart Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania, the Board of Governors of Hebrew Union College, the Boards of Trustees of Wilshire Boulevard Temple and the Board of Trustees of P.S. Arts. Mr. Halpern earned a Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
